Codex July Updates

Codex July Updates

Welcome to the Codex newsletter. Our monthly update offers a regular look into the development of the decentralised durability engine and peer-to-peer storage protocol.

Every month, we explore key developments, updates, and insights within the Codex ecosystem.

Below are the major updates from Codex for July 2025.

Codex is Evolving

Codex announced in July that we are currently undergoing an important and exciting evolution, transitioning to a new approach more aligned with the wider vision of the Logos ecosystem.

This process is currently underway, and things might be a bit quiet while we realign and lay out the framework for the project’s next chapter. We’re aiming to make Codex not only more robust and censorship-resistant, but also more usable and accessible for developers and end-users.

We will soon be revealing more information about our evolution and the positive impact we hope it will have on our mission to deliver a protocol for reliable and censorship-resistant decentralised storage as part of the Logos tech stack.

Decentralised Pinning with Third Storage

Codex and Logos DevRel Guru has built an AI-enabled decentralised pinning service that is built on top of the Codex protocol.

Currently in public alpha, the project is completely open-source and runs on the Codex Non-Incentivised Testnet and Logos technology stack.

The service offers a way to easily upload and download files through a streamlined and user-friendly dashboard or a RESTful API. The platform also offers a Codex Gateway, which can resolve the CID of any file stored on the Codex network.

Codex Factory

Last month, the Codex team also demonstrated Codex Factory, a tool for easily creating local clusters of Codex nodes for developer testing.

Codex Factory allows developers to spin up a functional network of Codex nodes using Docker, completely isolated from the testnet and the wider internet. This provides a predictable, repeatable environment with no dependency on the state or uptime of the public testnet.

Simple and developer-friendly, the tool is open-source and easy to extend based on developers’ needs. Check out the GitHub repository and feel free to contribute to the project.

Development of tools like Codex Factory, the Codex CLI Installer, and the Codex Desktop App is designed to make Codex easier to install, deploy, and run as needed. Check out the image below, which shows how Codex’s developer experience continues to improve:

Community Engagement and Events

At the beginning of July, Leo attended EthCC, where he spoke about future of sharded mempools, ephemeral blobs, and p2p propagation on Ethereum.

July also saw Codex Growth Lead Marina Petrichenko join a panel discussion at NapulETH, where she explored the topics of privacy, network states, and decentralised growth.

We also explored the ramifications of connected vehicles and the vast amounts of data they generate. Storing this data is a strong use case for distributed storage networks like Codex, as it can offer better durability for this data at a lower per-GB cost and the ability to offer open access or provide vehicle owners sovereignty over their data.

In July, the Codex team also held a Learn-Up session on the Constellations protocol, an early version of the Codex Desktop app, and the topic of decentralised pinning. Watch the full Learn-Up session on YouTube.

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events, workshops, and other updates.

Join the Codex Testnet

Codex is currently operating in its open, non-incentivised testnet phase, inviting anyone interested in running a node and contributing to the development of decentralised storage by distributing data across the network.

To install a Codex node and begin participating, please refer to the instructions available at docs.codex.storage.

Once your node is up and running, we welcome your feedback to help us further improve the client.

Several contributors have already shared their experiences setting up and running a Codex node. We encourage all new node operators to do the same, documenting their journey and insights to support ongoing development.

You can view live network statistics via our metrics dashboard.
