Codex March Updates

Welcome to the Codex newsletter. Our monthly update offers a regular look into the development of the decentralised durability engine and peer-to-peer storage protocol.
Every month, we explore key developments, updates, and insights within the Codex ecosystem.
Below are the major updates from Codex for March 2025.
Roadmap for 2025 and Beyond
In March, Codex released its Roadmap for 2025 and beyond, outlining its strategic goals and journey towards mainstream adoption.
Key milestones include the launch of the incentivised testnet in the second half of 2025, which will integrate incentive mechanisms detailed in the tokenomics lite paper.
By the third quarter, Codex aims to achieve mainnet readiness with a production-ready network and core features essential for reliable distributed storage and sustainable incentives.
Looking ahead to 2026, Codex intends to expand mainnet features and move towards mainstream adoption, positioning itself as a crucial player in addressing future digital infrastructure needs.

Codex Metrics Dashboard
Codex recently launched a live metrics dashboard, providing valuable insights into the state of the distributed storage network.
This tool provides real-time data on active nodes in the Codex network, including the software versions they run. The data is collected from Codex nodes operated via the Codex CLI in the testnet phase.
Before using the Codex CLI, users must agree to a privacy disclaimer. The data helps the team track testnet statistics and support users facing onboarding challenges.
Codex Developer Relations Lead Guru also demonstrated the features of the new metrics dashboard in the latest Codex Community Call.

BitTorrent Content Integration
Codex has successfully completed a v1 implementation of an end-to-end BitTorrent content integration. Currently, this implementation supports single-file content distribution only.
While some final refinements are ongoing, the core functionality is now in place, significantly enhancing decentralised file distribution.
Research into further integration between BitTorrent and Codex is underway and promises exciting functionality.

Akash Network and Identity Unleashed
Another exciting integration announced this past month is the ability to deploy a Codex node on Akash Network, allowing you to run a decentralised storage network on a decentralised compute platform.
For more on how to deploy Codex on Akash Network, read the documentation or check out the video below:
March also saw Codex Co-Founders Jessie and Dmitry appear on Civic’s podcast, Identity Unleashed, to discuss the world of decentralised storage and the development of Codex.
The conversation ranged across the inspiration behind the Codex storage network, the challenges faced in the decentralised storage space, use cases for AI and machine learning, and more.

Codex at Web3 Amsterdam

Codex had a memorable presence at Web3 Amsterdam, the city’s leading annual web3 conference.
Codex Growth Lead Marina Petrichenko and Solution Engineer Ben Bierens spoke about the importance of decentralised storage and the role of the Codex platform in the blockchain industry.
Discussions centred on uniting ecosystems, emphasising that a fully connected web3 requires not only asset bridging but also secure and accessible underlying data, and decentralised storage protocols like Codex will play a pivotal role in delivering this functionality in line with the underlying principles of web3.
Join the Codex Testnet
Codex is currently in a non-incentivised testnet phase, offering anyone the chance to run a node and contribute to the future of decentralised storage by sharing data on the network.
The Codex Installer CLI application makes it easier than ever to participate in the Codex testnet. This new tool simplifies installing and running a node and joining the public testnet.
To help you get started, we have published a step-by-step tutorial that guides you through installing and running a Codex testnet node using the Codex Storage CLI.
The tutorial also explains how to claim the Altruistic Mode and Active Participant roles in our Discord server.
Once you have installed and are running your Codex node, please share your feedback with the team to help improve the client.
